Contamination at the 2500 Block of East Hagert Street
In May of 2012 an environmental soil study was conducted
Over 9 separate bore holes were drilled into the floor of the Cattie Galvanizing plant on the 2500 block of East Hagert Street. Results showed very high levels of lead and zinc in two bore holes several times higher than the safe standards for soil concentration set forth by the Commonwealth Department of Environmental Protection.
Bore Hole 5 and 6 in the center of the property are believed to contain a large amount of lead contaminated soil. If this soil becomes an aerosol in the form of dust, all the properties that come into contact with this dust can accumulate unsafe levels of lead contamination.
